From Jalón to Maserof.
Although the name "Via Verde" evokes an old railway line (like the famous Vías Verdes in Spain), it refers to a specific hiking trail through the hilly hinterland of the Vall de Pop. Originally, Jalón/Xaló was home to various prehistoric cultures that left their mark on sites like the Cave of Wonders and the Levantine cave paintings of the Manzano Gorge, as well as remains from the Roman era. Later, Arab rule lasted for over five hundred years (with the remains of the Castle of Aixa at the summit of the Solana). Besides the Hermitage of Santo Domingo and the Church of Santa María, La Chopada is one of the most picturesque spots in Jalón, with its famous Saturday flea market. It should be noted that the Greenwich Meridian (longitude 0°0′0") passes through the urban center. Masserof is a district of Jalón. An old Roman villa is considered the origin of an Arab farmstead, later Maserof, and is now a wine museum, aimed at preserving the cultural and historical heritage of the Roman villa.
