Seguili

Seguili path.

This beautiful walk mainly goes over the plateau of Pla de Seguili. In addition to beautiful nature, the route gives you an insight into traditional rural life from the past. Along the route there are numerous cisterns to see, old rainwater reservoirs and wells. These bear witness to human activity in the area since the Middle Ages and show how inhabitants collected and stored water in this dry terrain. The ruins of old houses and barns that were once used by farmers and shepherds are also not missing.

Al-Sahila.

The Seguili Mountains (from Arabic, Al-Sahila or plain, or in this case the flat mountain range) are a low-altitude mountain range, between 388 and 411 metres above sea level between Orba, Alcalali and Benidoleig in the Marina Alta region. It is a living reminder of the tradition of shepherding. For centuries, shepherds have led their flocks on the slopes of this mountain to graze. As we reach the top, we pass by ancient ruins, caves, springs and “cisternas” or water reservoirs. The Coveta de Seguili is a beautiful little cave with stalactite formations. We walk along a “pasera”, a paved stone path to allow the animals easy passage, and past the Saboner baball, a hole drilled into the rock to extract and store rainwater. We then pass Tancat de Seguili, a large stone corral. The large stones on the ground mark the old outline of the building. From the ridge you have a beautiful view of the Mediterranean Sea, the Sierra de Segaria, the Riu Girona Valley and, in clear weather, even the Peñón de Ifach near Calpe.
