Poeke is a rural village near Aalter and takes its name from the Poeke brook, a tributary of the Durme. This walk takes you in and around the castle domain of Poeke, whose history dates back to the early 12th century. Where originally the enclosed house of the first lords of Poeke, now stands a fairytale castle, surrounded by a 56 hectare castle park with an English and French garden.

Artemeers mill.

This walk starts in the village of Poeke and goes through the beautiful forest park of the Poeke castle. Then it goes towards the Artemeers mill, on the border of Poeke with Kanegem. The mill was built in 1810 as a flour and oil mill, today it is still used as a flour mill.

POI 1 - Poeke castle.

The castle of Poeke is really impressive. The castle has its origins in the 12th century. The gardens of the castle of Poeke are worth a visit. The park is 53 hectares. The front garden of the castle was redesigned in French style. The English garden behind the castle was given a star-shaped lane pattern.

A round, stone grain windmill built in 1810 on a raised mill mountain.
