Wegh van Meijl op Seven.
Together with the various nature reserves, the canals form an attractively varied walking area. The nature reserve 't Molentje was once part of a large high moor area, around 1900 the peat was reclaimed and the area consisted of fields and meadows. Drainage ditches prevented the area from getting too wet. In 2004 the area was returned to nature. Kwakvors is a small nature reserve, nature development has also taken place here. The nature reserve consists of a low-lying grassland with a few bird pools. The whole is surrounded by strips of newly created forest. The Scherliet nature reserve, from which the name of this tour is derived, is a low-lying area with several peat pits. The area has not been opened for the public, its edge is being followed. Zinkske is a peel remnant, it consists of an excavated peat plain, overgrown with grass, some young birch forest and the remains of an old peat boat ("the wiekie"). The name 't Zinkske is a regional word for low. This probably has to do with the fact that both Neerkant and Helenaveen lie on a few meters high ridge. The Marisberg forest area is the highest part of the Peel. During the hike you will pass two of the nine basalt columns of the fictional Wegh van Meijl op Seven. Between the towns of Meijl and Sevenum there are nine columns about 1 mile (1,487 km) apart. These columns refer to the peel mystery around the golden helmet that was found in the Peel in 1910. Nice to read about the saga on the folktales bank.
