GRANDE CHARTREUSE MONASTERY.

The walk starts at the auberge du Charmant Som and goes over alpine meadows in the direction of a promontory without a name. Along the way you get a beautiful view of the famous Grande Chartreuse monastery. Here the famous green Chartreuse liqueur is made with flowers and herbs that are picked by the monks on the alpine meadows around the Charmant Som. On the path you also have a beautiful view of the Grand Som. Then begins a technical section along the edge of the cliffs, where you can often see chamois. Once you have rounded the cliffs, you will return to an alpine meadow and reach the cross at the top of the Charmant Som with one of the most beautiful panoramas in the region with a view of Mont Blanc, the Écrins and Vercors. You will certainly not be alone here. From the top you descend via alpine meadows under the ridge, alternatively you can also descend via the ridge, but this route is much steeper and requires more hiking experience.
