Hof ter Linden castle.

Fort 5 is a brick fortress that was built in 1860-1864, with beautiful masonry and stone decorations. After 1906, the main front building and the caponier were reinforced with concrete. There is now also a bat sanctuary. We first walk along the inside of the fortress, past various buildings and past the 2 commemorative monuments following the execution of 16 Belgian resistance fighters by the German occupier in WW1. Then we walk along the fort moat and the edge of the fort.

You leave the fortress to continue walking along the Terlindenpad to the castle Hof ter Linden. The Hof ter Linden castle with accompanying coach houses was built by the noble De Neuf family in 1773. The complex is a beautiful example of the neoclassical architectural style. Especially the castle has a very nicely preserved interior. We take a walk through the park here. Via a footpath and decking path we reach the fortress back where we walk along the outside of the canal back to the starting point.
