Tram collision at Wahlwiller.
Because of the many accidents that happened at the Rijksweg, a new section of tram track was built between Wahlwiller and Nijswiller in the direction of the Dorpstraat (now Oude Baan) past the church of Wahlwiller. This new route was taken into use around Easter 1932. Nevertheless, accidents continued to occur, such as the tram collision at Wahlwiller. A quote from Heemkundevereniging Wahlwiller yearbook 2020: "An accident between farm Lanterne and farm Schulsberg took place on Sunday, July 14, 1935. People came to call the pastor in great panic while he had just finished early mass in Nijswiller. There were two between Wahlwiller and Nijswiller steam trams ran into each other. Already on site were some fathers from Wittem and doctor Janssen from Gulpen, they were busy with the care of the wounded. Especially driver Willems, conductor Senden and a female passenger were in a serious condition. provided on the spot with the Holy Sacraments for the dying, but survived the accident and lived to a respectable age. All the benches in the wagons were broken. People wondered how this could have happened. Fortunately, it was a quiet Sunday morning". The hike goes along the Selzerbeek from which the track body in the landscape can be seen very well in a southerly direction. At Nijswiller the route followed the Rijksweg again to Lemiers. Before Lemiers there was an unloading place, after which it had its own route east of Lemiers over a track body (bank) to cross the low of the Zieversbeek, after which the route ended at Vaals station near the station building and a locomotive shed. The station building is still there. Part of the Selzerbeeklaan road that is followed in Vaals is located on the site of the route. Other places of interest include two castles, Nijswiller Castle and Oud Lemiers Castle.
