The Wegh van Meijl op Seven.
The common thread through this stage are canals, the Deurne Canal and the Helenavaart. Both channels were dug to dewater the Peel, with the aim of extracting peat. Both canals, together with the various nature reserves such as the peel remnants "t Zinkske," t Molentje, Scherliet, Het Kwakvors and the Marisberg forest area, form an attractive varied hiking area. 'T Zinkske is a peel remnant, it consists of an excavated peat plain overgrown with grass and some young birch forest. The name "t Zinkske" is a regional word for low, which probably has to do with the fact that both Neerkant and Helenaveen lie on a few meters high back. The nature reserve "t Molentje was once part of a large high moor area, around 1900 the peat was mined and transformed into an area with fields and meadows. Drainage ditches kept the area from getting too wet. In 2004 the area was returned to nature. Het Kwakvors is a small nature reserve, where nature development has also taken place. The nature reserve consists of a low-lying grassland area with a few bird puddles. The whole is surrounded by strips of newly landscaped forest. The name Kwakvors is derived from an old regional word for a frog. The Scherliet nature reserve is a low-lying area with a few peat pits, the area has not been opened up. The Marisberg forest area is the highest part of the Peel. During this stage you will pass the first two basalt columns of the fictional Wegh van Meijl on Seven. There are nine columns located about 1 mile (1,487 km) apart between the places Meijl and Sevenum. These columns refer to the peel mystery surrounding the golden helmet that was found in De Peel in 1910. Nice to read the saga on folktales bank about this.
