Sint-Jansberg and Mooker heath.
The Sint-Jansberg is an estate with wooded slopes, fields and meadows. The agricultural land is intersected by sunken roads. The forest part consists of beautiful old deciduous forests and coniferous forests. Sint-Jansberg is not only a beautiful nature reserve, there are also traces from a distant past. Under the ground are valuable remains of a Roman villa of almost 2000 years old. Above ground, low walls represent the ground contours. A pipe work of art is a three-dimensional representation of the original main building. The Mooker heath is located on a spur of the Nijmegen lateral mound and has significant height differences. This gives you beautiful views over the Maas at some points. During the walking tour you will encounter a number of other sights such as the remains of a former country house. In the second world war this country house was destroyed and of which only the foundations remain. There is a former ice cellar nearby. This now offers space for different types of bats. Furthermore, one passes a hunting lodge De Mookerheide built in 1904. Two redoubts are also visited, the first, the Heumense redoubt, probably built in the second half of the seventeenth century. The sconce is built in the shape of a five-pointed star with a diameter of 50 meters. The second redoubt, the Mookerschans, is built in the same period as a square and measures approximately 70 by 70 meters. At last one passes an old water mill, the upper Plasmolen, this mill dates from 1725. To supply the Upper Plasmolen with water, a few centuries ago the water was led to the Mill via a small canal parallel to the slope. The water from the helbeek flows through the Molenvijver into the center of the water wheel.
