Maasduinen.
The Hamert Estate is a large nature reserve consisting of forests, a large heathland area with striking high drifting hills, peat lakes, fens and a restored old burial mound. From this so-called "Vorstengraf" and the Trappenberg you have a beautiful view over the Pikmeeuwenwater. The Gelderns-Niers canal is one of the most remarkable waters in the Netherlands. It is a dug channel to dewater the German agricultural areas that, due to the great height difference over a relatively short distance, is a powerful flowing water that has cut deep into the hills, making it more like a stream than a channel. In the floodplains, the walk goes over and along Maasduinen, which here are very close to the Maas. The floodplains consist of flowery grasslands that lie in a narrow strip along the Maas, together with wooded higher situated Maasduinen.
