The hike starts at the Nature and Environmental Center De IJzeren Man and goes through the rich recreational and nature area De IJzeren Man, the forest area west of Altweerterheide and through the edge of the Kruispeel along the Tungelroyse Beek via the sand extraction area that will be built in the future as a nature reserve.

In the De IJzeren Man recreation and nature area, the hike takes you past the beautifully situated fens of the Kleine IJzeren Man, Zwanenven, Geurtsven and Eendenven. The Kruispeel is a remnant of a vast heath and marsh landscape. The sand extraction consists of two pools, part of the largest pond has now been converted into a swimming lake Het Blauwe Meertje. From a hill on the edge of the sand extraction area, you have a beautiful view of the surroundings and the fens.
