WALKING AND SAILING.

From the starting point you walk through a beautiful mixed forest to the first viewpoint on the Taubenstein. You can see the Niedermühle down here in the valley and the Czech Republic in the distance. The route continues through the forest and then you follow the Kirnitzsch river for a while to the Obere Schleuse. Here you board the typical boats and sail between the steep rock formations while the boatswain tells stories. After you have completed this beautiful boat trip, you continue walking in the direction of the Hermannseck. To reach this viewpoint you have to go through a narrow gorge with stairs, a bit of an adventure. The viewpoint is dedicated to head forester Hermann Schlegel. The stone complex on the Hermannseck was built as early as 1866. You continue through the forest to the Wolfsschlucht where you go through a natural tunnel. Königsplatz is the next destination on the route, here you have a beautiful view of the rugged rock formations of the Eisensptize and Dreibrüderstein. You reach the last viewpoint on the Grünstelle via a beautiful forest path.

POI 2 -Boat trip Obere Schleuse.

Where the Kirnitzsch River is cut deep into the rocks in the middle of the core zone of the national park, you will find one of the most popular excursion destinations in Saxon Switzerland: the historic boat trip on the Obere Schleuse. The first summer visitors were transported to the dam as early as 1879, which was initially used for transporting timber on rafts. While the boats glide almost silently over the clear water, you can let your imagination run wild on the steep rock formations: on the banks you can discover mountain spirits, crocodiles, frogs and sheep. Sulfur lichens cover the rock walls, giving them an almost golden glow.
