Lac Vert and Lac Blue

This walk starts under the Col du Tourmalet and the Pic du Midi where the famous observatory is located. You walk via a path to the rugged valley of the Bonida where you start a steep climb, via hairpin bends, to the Col d'Aoube. On the climb you get a nice panorama on the Lac Vert and Lac Blue. From the col you descend to these two emerald green lakes where you can have a picnic. In the summer you will also encounter large herds of sheep in this area. At the end of the lake you will be treated to a beautiful panorama of the Chiroulet and the valley of Lesponne. On this walk you will certainly be able to observe griffon vultures and birds of prey.

The path goes a long way parallel to the valley and then turns towards the Lac D'Aouda, where by the way water is not always in it. From the Bonida valley it continues in the direction of the col d'Aoube at an altitude of 2369 meters. From the col you can already see the Lac Vert. After a descent you reach the Lac Vert and further the beautiful Lac Blue. You return along the same path as the way there.

POI 1 - Pic du Midi de Bigorre.

On the Pic du Midi de Bigorre, an observatory has been established since 1880 where the universe is studied. At the research center there is an interactive museum about astronomy. Here you can learn everything about the stars and the planets, but also about the history of the observatory of the Pic du Midi. There is also a broadcasting station for radio and television. The Pic du Midi is located just north of the Col du Tourmalet. There runs a zigzagging road (formerly a toll road) to a point just below the top, but this road is now closed to traffic because of danger. However, the top can be reached via footpaths and also with two successive cable cars. From the La Mongie at 1800 meters you go to Le Taoulet, at 2342 meters, and then to the Pic du Midi, at 2877 meters. From the summit you have a unique view of the chain of the Pyrenees on all sides.
