Nest.

Renovated and new farms, but especially computer-controlled greenhouses, are the pillars and also witnesses to the prosperity of the approximately 3000 inhabitants. Meer is one of the largest strawberry centers in Belgium. By applying modern trial, sales and cultivation techniques, Proefcentrum Hoogstraten and Coöperatie Hoogstraten (the former "Auction") try to secure the future of young horticulturalists and farmers.

POI 1 - Nest.

At node 38 you will find "Nest" on top of a pole. This bronze artwork by Raf Thys refers to the origins of the village of Meer. This is the old village center of Meer and, together with the church and its surroundings, it is classified as a village view and landscape. The memorial stone in the facade of a two-family house shows that the municipal school was housed here from 1851 to 1952. Near the tower you can see the semicircular Commandment House or "Buoy" where official messages were proclaimed after Sunday Mass, probably by the constable.
