This dike, also called Groenendijk, was rebuilt as a cultural-historical part of a nature development project. In the past, the dike had to protect Haren against the water of the Beerse Maas, which did not always go well, especially when men from Deurzen and Dennenburg came to cross the dike at night to drink the water of "de Beers" as the Beerse Maas was called. to be finished. Haren's men were waiting for them with shovels, sticks and guns, but sometimes they were too late. The dike no longer has a water management function but is a nature reserve that is grazed by cattle. After leaving the Groene Dijk, the walking tour continues towards Dieden and Demen, both nice Maas villages have a ribbon development with at most a second street parallel to the dike, the towns have a long history. The church building in Dieden dates from the 12th and early 13th centuries and is particularly beautifully situated on the Maasdijk. Between both towns is the Stella Polaris tower mill (Latin for North Star), this mill was built in 1866. The history of Demen dates back to the 11th century. The substructure of the church tower in Demen is still from the 15th century, there is also a churning house opposite the church from before 1826 and several 17th and 18th century farms. After leaving these villages, the hike continues through the floodplains of the Diedense Uiterdijk, a bit over the dike and through the flower-rich grasslands of the Ossekampen and then back to the town of Haren via a meadow path. During wet seasons, parts of the walk can be boggy, so sturdy waterproof shoes are recommended. For the wettest part, the section through the Ossekampen, an alternative is available that offers a beautiful view over the watery part of the Ossekampen, which in the past was an old channel of the Maas.
