Valley of the Härdbaach.

At the start of this circular walk, a bomb that was dug up and defused on the edge of the village is a reminder of the horrors of the Second World War. The route takes you along a quiet paved road to the romantic Dielchen valley, where you take a narrow path past the former hermitage of Méchelskierch. The Méchelskierch is a historic cave that served as a hermitage for a hermit named Michel in the 18th century. Then you continue through more open terrain to the Muerbësch on the plateau. In this forest area there are several mardelles, which are particularly important for the survival of amphibians and which sometimes dry out in summer. Mardelles are fascinating natural formations that are mainly found in the Luxembourg Gutland. They are actually small, usually water-filled basins that have no drainage. After a passage across the open plain, the line of houses of the hamlet of Altrier with its characteristic water tower appears on the southern horizon. Now the hiking trail leads along the Steebaach past rock carvings from the Stone Age down into the valley of the Härdbaach. After crossing the stream, you climb along a rugged rock face with numerous bizarre rock formations to the Kuelscheier. You go through the 100-meter dark rock crevice and you can explore the entire site at your leisure. There are 6 different points of interest in the Kuelscheier area to visit. The route continues through some spectacular narrow rock crevices such as the Rittergang and Déiwepetz to return through the forest to Consdorf.

POI 1 - Kuelscheier.

The Kuelscheier is a remarkable rock formation consisting of a narrow, dark rock tunnel of about 100 meters long. This tunnel, which is closed at the top, was created by separating sandstone blocks along cracks in the rock face. The name "Kuelscheier" means "coal barn" and probably refers to the temporary storage of charcoal in the cracks of the rock formation.
