The route departs on an unpaved road along Lake Oderteich. Along the way you have not often a view of the lake, but that is more than compensated for on the way back. After a while the road turns into a beautiful path that follows the course of the Roten brook. It is not without reason that this section is called the fairytale route. Eventually you arrive at Torfhaus where you can visit the Harz National Park visitor center. Here you also have a beautiful view of the Brocken. Afterwards you walk along the Goetheweg to the beautiful heathland area of Torfhaus Moor. You walk along a plank path next to the heath and from the first bench you have a fantastic view of the heath and the Brocken. You continue on the Goetheweg along the Abbegraben canal. You walk on unpaved roads to the Kaiserweg. Here begins a short but steep climb to the Hophensacke. You now continue to follow the Kaiserweg until you arrive at Oberbrück. You cross the road and now continue on unpaved roads until you reach the other bank of the Oderteich. You now follow the path next to the lake with beautiful views along the way.
