POI 1 - La Garde-Guérin.

The town originated on the so-called voie de Régordane. This was a very important trade route in the Middle Ages, connecting the Massif Central with the Mediterranean. This was at the same time one of the few trade routes in this area, so that the robbers often lurked. In the twelfth century AD, at the request of the Bishop of Mende, a garrison was appointed who became responsible for guarding this important trade route. For example, a border post was built at the location of the contemporary village where this garrison was housed. In the thirteenth century this border post was named "La Garde-Guérin". The presence of this border post, which quickly grew into a small fortified town, made it possible to charge toll to anyone who wanted to use this important trade route. Partly thanks to the strategic location of the town, additional defenses were soon built.
