The legend of the thousand stones.

The walk departs in the beautiful hamlet of Chavanac at the church from the 13th century. Once outside the hamlet it goes via an unpaved road and a nice path that is flanked by young vegetation. After a short stretch on a traffic-restricted asphalt road you walk into the peat area. Here is the pure enjoyment of the variety, heather and peat with wide views alternate. You go straight through the peat area and then you arrive at an asphalt road via a wide forest road that takes you to the parking lot of the area. Here you have a beautiful panorama of the whole area and the surrounding Puy's. Then it goes via a forest road with beech trees and the foot of the Puy Perat back to the starting point.

POI 1 - The peat area of Longeyroux.

A legend tells a lot about the harsh living conditions in this desolate peat area: A girl who guarded her herd of cows on the peat was surprised by a terrible storm. Her animals were petrified by the violence of the storm, and stood on the spot, they did not find the strength to return to the stable. The poor girl cursed the devil and saw the cows change into stones one by one, and soon the moor was covered with thousand stones or thousand cows; Millevaches. The peat area Longeyroux is the largest in the Limousin with its 250 hectares. Like all peat areas of the Limousin, it also houses a specific flora and fauna. From point 5 you can see beautiful around the Puys at an altitude of 900 meters that have formed an impenetrable granite basin. This basin creates the right conditions for the development of peat and marsh. Limousin sheep, local species adapted to this harsh environment, contribute to the preservation of this natural pearl.
