The Haut-Rhin department occupies the southern part of Alsace. Most of the department is located in the Alsace plain with the natural regions of Ried to the northeast and Hardt to the southeast. The Hautes-Vosges stretch to the west, while the Alsatian Jura stretches to the southern part, the Sundgau.

The Vosges have almost everything to offer for the hiker who likes to go through nature. The area has unprecedented large mixed forests, pink sandstone formations, high-lying peat areas and the 'balloons' with peaks up to 1,424 meters.
