Old tobacco villages.
The region is marked by tobacco cultivation. Along the little steep roads you will discover more and more witnesses of the agricultural history of this region, such as the old tobacco drying barn and the tobacco villages of Mouzaive and Laforêt. In some places it seems as if time has stopped. Just before Laforêt you can take a look at the Pont de Claies, a primitive bridge made with woven branches, which is used in the summer to cross the river. Also worth a visit to the village Laforêt with its typical houses and its old tobacco drying barns. Laforêt belongs to the Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia.

POI 1 - Laforêt.
Laforêt, situated on the banks of the Semois in the middle of the woods, was once surrounded by tobacco fields. This rustic and charming village has small local slate farms around the Sainte-Agathe church. They are decorated in a very local way: lucky charms (often in heart shape) on the barns, round windows in French stone, wooden frames of windows and doors. On the outskirts of the village and in the village center there are tobacco driers, a reminder of an activity that has ensured prosperity in the region. A 2 km long interpretation trail leads you through the didactic signs to the village. The village also has water bins. One of them, located at the end of the village, is part of a complex that also includes an indoor laundry house from the beginning of the 20th century and a fountain. This ensemble testifies to the organization of everyday life in the past. The women washed their clothes in the wash house sheltered from the weather. Cattle and herds drunk water in the blue stone basin, while a small fountain provided water for the fireplaces.
