Walking route
Tozal de Igüerra.

Tozal de Igüerra.
This hike in the Posets-Maladeta Natural Park combines spectacular views with the rich pastoral history of the Gistain Valley. The typical Bordas dot the slopes everywhere, giving you an idea of the harsh life of the shepherds here. The 360-degree view of the Tozal de Igüerra is truly spectacular, as is the view of the Gistain Valley from the Cruz de Puyadasé.

Route of the shepherd's huts.
From the village, you walk a short distance along the GR19 to the first viewpoint, Cruz del Grau. Here you have a beautiful view of the valley and the village of Plan. A little further on, you leave the GR and follow an old shepherd's path towards Sobrelalpila. Here you have your first view of the Bal de La Comuna, the valley where you can see the first Bordas on the other side. These small pastoral dwellings are traditional stone buildings, typical of the Pyrenees. They had a dual function: the ground floor was used as a stable for the cattle, and the upper floor as a hay barn and very basic living quarters for the shepherd and his family. The route now continues towards the Peña del Cuezo at an altitude of 1,920 m. You climb steadily and cross the Collado del Cuezo to the Tozal de Igüerra at an altitude of 1,956 m. Here you have a fantastic 360° view of the surrounding mountain ranges, such as the Culfreda and the peaks of the Posets-Maladeta massif. Via the Collado de Igüerra, you continue to the Tozal de Igüerra Norte at an altitude of 1,939 m. At this summit, you will see a large sheepfold below to the right. This is the destination of the rest of the trail; the route descends and goes next to a wire fence until it reaches a dirt road. You continue along this dirt road for a long stretch, passing the sheepfold and seeing numerous Bordas in the valley. In the distance, you will see a forest. After a few hairpin bends, you finally reach the forest. Continue along the road until you reach Cruz de Puyadasé. Here, you'll find a small recreation area and a viewpoint overlooking the Gistain Valley. After enjoying the view, you can choose to return to the village via a dirt road or along the mountain path that runs largely parallel to the dirt road.
