Nature reserve Fochteloërveen.

The walk begins along the Bonghaar cycling and hiking trail, an old sand ridge. Such sand ridges, in an otherwise wild and impassable landscape, were traditionally used as thoroughfares. Then you'll take a short loop through the peatlands of the Fochteloërveen nature reserve, one of the last remaining raised bogs in the Netherlands. These wetlands provide excellent habitat for snakes and birds. At the end of the route, you'll see Brunstingerplas on the left, created by peat extraction. At this lake, there's a good chance of spotting cranes year-round. Cranes have been breeding in Fochteloërveen since 2001, marking their comeback as a breeding bird in the Netherlands after centuries of absence. After the walk, you can visit the birdwatching hut on the edge of Brunstingerplas.
