The walk starts on a paved road that quickly turns into a wide dirt road. You go through the Val Veny between beautiful larches and the Dora di Veny river is never far away. You come to a small bridge over the Dora di Veny river and get a view of the picturesque Combal lake. The lake is located at an altitude of 1955 meters and was formed by the meltwater of the Miage glacier. This gives the lake a characteristic color and texture. From the lake the path goes over flat terrain along the lake that has largely turned into a peat bog. Along the way you have a beautiful view of the Mont Blanc and the Aguille Noire. After the flat part you start a steep climb to the Rifugio Elisabetta. The ruins of old army buildings near Lex Blanche and Rifugio Elisabetta in Val Veny bear witness to the strategic importance of this area in the past. These buildings are the remains of military installations that date mainly from the period of the Second World War and the decades before. From the ruins it is a short distance to the rifugio Elisabetta which is situated at an altitude of 2195 m. From the refuge you have a spectacular view of the surrounding peaks and glaciers of the Mont Blanc massif such as the Glacier de la Lée Blanche, the Aiguille des Glaciers (3,816 m), one of the most prominent peaks and the Aiguille Noire de Peuterey (3,773 m). The Pyramides Calcaires are striking limestone rock formations and form an impressive geological contrast with the surrounding granite peaks of the Mont Blanc massif. You return to the starting point via the same route.
