The Bavarian Forest.
TThe Bavarian Forest National Park (German: Bayerischer Wald National Park) became the first National Park in Germany in 1970. Since the enlargement of 1997, it has an area of 24,250 hectares. Together with the Bohemian Forest (Šumava National Park) in the Czech Republic, the "Bayerische Wald" is the largest cohesive forest in central Europe. A large part of the national park is above 1000 meters altitude. The whole is surrounded by the flanks of the Falkenstein (1315 m), the Lusens (1373 m) and the Rachel (1453 m). In addition to the slope forest, there is still peat moor and heather, the so-called Schachten, which run on the Czech side of the border in the Bohemian Forest. In the east, the national park borders the Šumava National Park, with which there is close cooperation. The purpose of the national park is to leave nature, nature. Nature and natural processes must be protected in the largest part of the park. In 8000 Hectare (almost 25% of the total) no more intervention is made by man.
