Along papal border posts.

The wide dirt road immediately goes up through beautiful vineyards. The view opens above La Lance, Valréas and the surrounding villages. Leave the road (marked in red) and go right through a forest. Cross a small valley, the markings are unclear, you have to cross the walkway, the path goes up through vegetation and vines. Soon you will reach the top of the hill with a beautiful view of Mont Ventoux and Les Dentelles de Montmirail. The route goes east, through vineyards, truffle orchards and lavender fields. Along the way you will come across the five clearly marked papal boundary stones. The wide flat road turns to the northeast and you reach another intersection. Turn left down and stay on it for about 2 km until you reach the parking lot at the Gué.

POI 1 - Papal border posts.

The boundary stones were used to mark the boundaries of the Enclave des Papes. They were placed for three periods: in 1324, 1414 and 1457. Today, a total of twenty-two remain. The stones are 30 cm thick, 40 cm wide and 150 cm high. They are decorated with carvings of one or more coats of arms, most of which came from the Comtat Venaiss in the territory of the popes.
