The Haut-Rhin department occupies the southern part of Alsace. Most of the department is located in the Alsace plain with the natural regions of Ried to the northeast and Hardt to the southeast. The Hautes-Vosges stretch to the west, while the Alsatian Jura stretches to the southern part, the Sundgau.
Natural Park of the Ballons des Vosges.
In this area you can walk on the ridges through green valleys or enjoy the golden terraces of vineyards in autumn. The area has more than 7000 km of hiking trails set out by the Club Vosgien.
Natural site of the Ventron Massif.
Located on the slopes of the Haut-Rhin as well as the Vosges, the nature reserve of the Ventron massif was created in 1989 and covers 1647 hectares between 720 and 1204 m above sea level. It has a vast forest area, punctuated by clearings in Lorraine, Ballons along the ridge and large granite boulders on the Alsatian slopes.
