Talander Walk

This walk in the nature reserve Hoge Vijvers goes via small paths and wide lanes through this vast forest. It is hard to imagine that there was no forest here until the mid-nineteenth century. At that time peat extraction was still being carried out, as a result of which ponds originated on this higher part of the Kempen, this explains the name 'Hoge Vijvers'.

walk through the Calie Valley, a vast low moorland area

Circular | 8 km.

This walk follows nodes of the Kempische Heuvelrug walking network and explores the beautiful and peaceful nature of the Calie Valley. Originally, this area was a vast low-lying peatland. Today, the landscape is still recognizable by its marshy forests, with large areas of alder swamp forest, interspersed with ponds and a few open hay meadows. The Grote Calie, the Kleine Calie, and the Echelsgracht flow through the valley. These waterways were dug centuries ago to better drain the wet area.
